MOMtrepreneurs™ Film project Interview with Angelina
Why a movie project after 21 years of MOMtrepreneurs™ ?
Had there been a film when I was a young woman that dealt with real issues around personal and financial development, and how to handle life's drama, I would have made better decisions in life! Instead I've gone thru the trauma and drama and success while helping many women along the way. I just need to reach more.
"If I can prevent a tear, encourage a smile, and pass on a life lesson that I've grown through, then the risk of my transparency is worth it."
What is your goal for the viewer?
This project is full of transparency and is meant to reach the core of its viewers. To encourage a dream realistically. I want to encourage those that feel helpless, that they are not alone; grab the heart of the hurting women who feel stuck and demonstrate why it doesn't have to be this way. And for those who have an itch for entrepreneuring they will be empowered with the knowledge on how to achieve.
“I believe domestic violence can be prevented, interrupted, and healed from when the right personal and economic development tools are in place." How do you relate to those women in hardship situations?
I funded myself out of domestic violence through having my own business. It can be done. It just needs to be taught. There continues to be a rise of financially struggling single moms who marry the wrong guy for the myth of financial security at the expense of their children. IF we are considering our future generations we need to address that, while also empowering grandmothers who are raising more of their grandchildren each year.
Twice Awarded by the Small Business Administration and Governor?
Being recognized for the difference we were making was very special. When we went public using technology, print and media, such as radio and TV in 2003-2004, it was about reaching as many women as possible to let them know about the lifeline that starting your own business could offer, especially for women in compromised circumstances. Within the first year we had 2 million women. We were pre-Facebook or about the same time but I tragedy happened that threw us off track temporarily.
Why now?
I'm in a better place in my life now. There's no more drama or trauma [I had to wait for my brain to heal from a head injury several years ago] to distract me. My marriage, that's been in reconciliation mode for the past two years, is in a healthier and happier place, hence the launch of MENtrepreneurs by my husband Daniel. My children are young adults who have given me their blessing to share some personal things we've gone through. . . it just time for so many reasons.
You are choosing to share the movie to include other women, why?
My story is not the only story that needs to be told. There is value in providing an opportunity for women, who understand in their core, how their transparency will have a ripple affect in another person's life, family, and community. The women that will be part of this project have the maturity to understand the responsibility that comes with being transparent, especially on the scale in which this project will evolve to.
Who are the women that will be part of this project?
There are some amazing women that started with nothing but an itch and through blood, sweat and tears made it. There are others that lost everything and started over with practically nothing. Their persistence and knowledge, by asking for help from others, paid off. There are many women who won't know they were selected until the film is released. I love bragging about those who deserve it. My gift to them.
I believe that the film will sift the women who are serious about succeeding from those that chatter, in such a way that these passionate women will connect and synergize each other afterwards. That's where the real beauty will evolve. After the show. Women helping Women.
